About The MADAG Hope Foundation

Somalia has been a country in chronic complex emergency since 1991 when the Siad Barre government collapsed. The resulting civil war and frequent natural disasters have led to a lack of basic services and great human suffering and humanitarian crises.

MADAG Hope Foundation was established by Prof. Mohamed Ali-Dahir in 1994, who saw the need to address immediate needs and ensure the self-reliance of the poorest people around Mogadishu city. The Name MADAG is derived from the Somali word MADDAG, meaning “Ancient techniques for starting friction fires”.

MADAG Hope Foundation (MADAG) is an international charity organization that helps generous and caring people around the world reach out to Somali’s in need. Over the years we have gained better donor recognition and expanded our capacity to provide better delivery into the Somali context. MADAG is now fully registered and recognized as a non-profit charity organization in Canada, and Somalia.

Carrying immediate relief during Somali wars, building and supporting schools, orphanages, providing Ramadan Iftars and food distribution, and providing fresh meat for needy through the support of community-based initiatives.

We believe that those whom God has granted wealth need to cleanse that wealth through charity.
